Why I Do Free Financial Breakfasts (And What the Heck It Even Is)
A straightforward guide to what happens at my free Financial Breakfasts: why I organize these online sessions for expat women, what topics we cover, and the real reason I do this for free.

So, let me start with what a Financial Breakfast actually is.
I organize free online sessions that happen about once a month, usually on the first or second weekend. We sit down together, we talk about different topics around financial literacy, financial markets, and always with a focus on Europe and the Czech Republic context. And we do all of this for free.
It's basically a 60-minute online session where we go through the most common questions expat women have about money in Czechia. I share clear explanations and practical tips, and then we have time for your questions so you can connect what you hear to your own situation.
My style is simple: no jargon, no talking down, no shaming. I put a lot of effort into explaining things clearly, using concrete examples, and making sure what I say is actually understandable and useful in real life. My goal is that you leave thinking, "Okay, I finally understand this. I know what my next step is."
Why Do You Do This for Free?
One question comes up all the time. Like, really, all the time. And it's this: why would I do this, given that I'm a certified financial advisor and consultant? I am certified by the Czech National Bank, by the way. I don't have to do this. And it's true. I don't.
Sometimes people wonder if I do this just to fish for new business. It’s a fair question! While I definitely still take on clients in my day-to-day work and love growing my practice, I wear a different hat during these breakfasts. I’m not there to sell you my services; I’m there to be an educator. There’s no hidden agenda or sneaky strategy going on behind the scenes.
So why do I do it? Let me be honest with you.
When I started organizing these Financial Breakfasts, one thing was always at the top of my mind: I am a feminist. I truly, truly believe that women need to stick together. And I truly believe that a lot of women end up in difficult situations because, let's face it, this patriarchal world isn't set up for us.
Through my own story, through the story of my mother-in-law, I've seen what happens when someone becomes dependent. Dependent on their husband or partner. Dependent on their parents. Dependent on their children. It's a horrible situation, and it's so hard to get out of.
So I don't want women to end up in those situations. I don't want them to stay stuck in those situations. What I want, for real, genuinely, is for women to become financially stable, financially secure, and financially free.
And this isn't just empty talk for me. This means so much. I am still not completely financially independent myself. I'm still working on it every single day. But I want to bring as many women with me on this journey as possible.
For me, the biggest motivation is volunteerism and empowering women. I believe in this with my whole heart. I believe that if we don't stand together, no one is coming to help us. It's just us. And I can help other women achieve something wonderful, to achieve more, to be more, to have more.
So no, my primary motivation has never been about clients or making more money. It never was.
If I help just three women this month understand something about financial literacy, and next month they start investing and start making smarter choices, that makes me so, so, so happy. Because it means those women are on the road to their own financial freedom. And I can't lie to you and say it doesn't please me. It does. It truly, truly does. That's enough for me. That is more than enough
There's Also Something In It for Me
Here's another big motivation for me. And this one has nothing to do with others. It has everything to do with me. What do I get out of it?
Believe it or not, my background is in academia. I used to be a lecturer and a researcher. It just so happened that I didn't want to continue that path here in the Czech Republic, but it doesn't mean I stopped loving it. I think teaching and educating people is my biggest passion.
So, whether you believe me or not: doing these seminars gives me so much joy. I love the preparation. I love presenting. I love asking and answering questions. I love those moments when I can see that someone just got something.
I genuinely enjoy the thought that, okay, maybe I've changed a little bit of someone's life. Three women. Four women. Five women. Maybe twenty women. That is enough. That is so, so enough.
What Actually Happens at a Financial Breakfast?
It's pretty simple, really. We meet for about an hour, maybe a bit more depending on questions. I pick a topic for that month, something practical, something that matters to people here in the Czech Republic, especially if you're an expat. I give a short presentation, I explain how things work, and then we open it up for discussion. You can ask me literally anything. No such thing as a stupid question in that room.
And it's in English, so if you're not a Czech speaker, no worries, you're absolutely welcome.
I keep it casual. There's coffee, there's usually some breakfast involved, that's where the name comes from, after all. And it's a safe space. No sales pitch. No pressure. Just honest conversation about money.
What Topics Do You Cover?
I cover a wide range of topics, honestly. Some of the things I've talked about before include:
How the Czech pension system works, because let's be real, it's confusing, especially if you're from another country.
Investing basics, how to get started, what to be aware of, especially in the European context.
Insurance, life insurance, car insurance, apartment insurance, what you actually need versus what you're just paying for.
Budgeting and managing your finances as an expat in the Czech Republic.
Saving and emergency funds, the practical stuff nobody talks about.
DPS or DIP or nothing? What these pension products are, how they're different, and a simple way to decide if either makes sense for you right now.
Basically, if it's about money and it matters to people living here, I'll probably cover it at some point.
Do I Need to Be a Client to Attend? Is There Any Catch?
Absolutely not. You don't need to be a client. You don't need to commit to anything. You don't even need to be thinking about becoming a client. You can just show up, listen, learn, and leave. That's it.
I genuinely believe that financial literacy should be accessible to everyone. If you come to one Financial Breakfast and that's the only time you ever interact with me, that's perfectly fine. I've still done what I set out to do, I've helped you understand your money a little better.
Now, if after attending you decide you want more personalized help, that's available too. But that's entirely your choice. No pressure, no guilt trips. Just options.
How Can I Join?
The easiest way is to check my website, liubovborisova.eu, and look for the Financial Breakfast section. I post updates there about upcoming dates and topics. I also share events on social media, so feel free to follow me there.
Here's a little insider tip: I usually announce the next event a few weeks in advance, and spots can fill up pretty quickly. So if you see something you like, don't wait too long to sign up. And if you ever miss one, don't stress, there'll be another one next month.
If you have more questions, send them my way.
Thanks for reading, and I'll see you at the next Financial Breakfast.
